Blog #3: My takeway from this experience:

Blog #3 My takeaway from this experience. This week went by in a blur. I tested my limits on energy in the classroom spending all my time creating a great experience for my students. After we pulled through our final day of teaching, we came home to prepare for the party. The party was very interesting and equally crazy. It started off casual as students started coming in and we greeted them. We took plenty of photos with each other and they conversed with the best English they could (I’m glad to say that their English had improved!) Then, at a particular time in the party, we told everyone that the snack bar was open which consisted of a very large assortment of chips and candies. It was at this point that kids went out of control! From across the schoolyard to the band area kids came running like this snack bar was a giant magnet. Instantly they were piling over each other grabbing as much stuff as they could and running out with multiple bags of chips shoved between their arms.
Blog #2 Perspective and Life Morocco. What to say about this unique place! Every day I love to wake up and teach all these beautiful kids. Some of them are even helping me understand the Arabic writing. A girl Named Hiba Ella taught me how to wright my full name which I would love to share on here but I’m typing this on an English keyboard. The kids are all so adorable and even if I’m not the best teacher, they love hearing what I have to say. Even if they come out of this experience only learning their ABC’s and how to structure a basic sentence, I will make sure they remember those things for the rest of their lives. We are halfway through this trip and in a sense, I feel like I have lived here my whole life. This week alone has felt like a whole other lifetime time that I have only just discovered. I’m trying to imagine myself growing up in Rabat and I can’t even begin to imagine how different of a person I would be. What would my mindset be like? What would I be fascinate

Kyla Wolffe- How do I feel so far?

So far, we have been experiencing new things since the day we got to Morocco! The first day I arrived I felt a sense of adventure (a bit giddy.) We went on an hour long tour and I learned some things about the Medina, which is the older part of Rabat. The Medina is a huge network of cobblestone streets and tall buildings. When you walk into the medina, you feel as if you have just gone back in time. We went to a Museum and I was able to see older artifacts that showed how they would record real estate. Another interesting thing was how the housing was situated without stair on a multi-level building. They also used to have really small doorways that where dangerous to get up to.  I felt a sense of wonder as I started to realize the crazy differences between my home and the lives of locals in Rabat. We were greeted by our translators along with Ali, our main program director.                 Lisa Marie tells us our plans when the day begins, so it’s always a surprise for what we a
Blog #3 - Kyla Wolffe How My home affects who I am The town I live in has had a huge impact on my way of life! If it weren't for the amazing place I call home, I wouldn't be who I am today. My love for the outdoors is thanks to the mountains, forests, and lakes in my backyard. Of course, I would love to travel the world but I will always come back here to my home. I was born here and I plan to stay. Eagle County is home to two amazing ski mountains, beautiful rivers, hiking/biking trails, and some of the best people I have ever met. I have been to New York City and felt closed in. It was a “dirty place” to me and there wasn't a single mountain in sight. The amount of urban landscape in New York took me by surprise as it made me realize that cities are not for me! I have a love for photography, art, road biking, swimming, and hiking. All of which can be done in Eagle County!   I probably sound like a bit of a strange person coming from my generat
Blog #2 Hello! Welcome back to my blog! Today I am going to share with you some pretty interesting knowledge about Morocco, which is where my service trip will take place.  Let's set the stage to around 1000 BC when a group of people known as the Phoenicians came to the land where Morocco would soon come to be. The Phoenicians were very good at trading and started to set up trading posts. Soon, this began to attract many people from across the country and the Phoenicians started to grow as a city. This city was called Carthage, which is near modern-day Tunisia. Unfortunately about 800 years later, the Romans came in and ended up conquering Carthage! A while later, Arabs took over and introduced the religion and the culture of Islam. Once again, Morocco was conquered in the 11th century by a group known as the Berbers. Many diverse groups battled over the leadership of Morocco for quite a while, 4 centuries around 1727 to be exact, a

Hello! My name is Kyla! I am a freshman at Battle Mountain High School and currently, I am participating in a club called Spilled Ink. In Spilled Ink, we get to draw, write and do some photography. We draw many things and right now we are working on Thanksgiving themes. We are also writing poems about certain subjects. Last week, we wrote poems about vampires. One of my favourite things we do is photography and I love submitting pictures of fall! Those are some of my favourite things to do. When I'm not at school, I am hanging out with my friends or playing with my cats. I have two cats named Noodles and Pesto. Yes, I know they're named after food. It's a long story I can tell a different day. The trip I will be going on is to Morocco which is a country in Northern Africa. In Morocco, we will be teaching English to several students and helping out at Abde Salan Middle School. We will also be participating in home visits to meet families and make new friends. Ch
